Largest Hispanic foodservice distributor in Northeast added as fourth operating division of growing firm; Thomsen Foodservice acquires assets of D’Andrea Foods
Richmond, VA. – May 13, 2024 – Legacy Food Group (“LFG”) announced today the acquisition of Best Mexican Foods (“BMF”), becoming the company’s fourth operating division alongside Keck’s Food Service, Inc. (“Keck’s”), M&V Provisions Co. (“M&V”), and Thomsen Foodservice, Inc. (“Thomsen”).
Founded in 1968, BMF is a second-generation, family-owned specialty distributor of the highest quality wholesale Mexican food products. Based in Chester, N.Y., they service independent and regional chain restaurants throughout the Northeast.
BMF’s high-quality product selection features a full collection of fresh and authentic Hispanic products, ranging from tortillas, cheeses, a variety of meats, sides, bar supplies, and condiments, to disposables, housekeeping supplies, and more. Their catalog also includes an expansive collection of exclusive brands across multiple product categories.
Under the leadership of Daniel and Louis Barbone, BMF has leveraged their expansive product catalog, excellent customer service, and regional sales team to become the largest Hispanic foodservice distributor in the Northeast.
“Best Mexican Foods is excited by the relationship now forged with Legacy Food Group,” said Daniel Barbone, President of BMF. “Their management team brings a wealth of experience and talent to the table, and we are looking forward to their involvement accelerating our growth for years to come.”
“We are looking forward to utilizing the shared resources now available to better serve our current customers and grow our presence in local markets,” added Louis Barbone, Vice President of BMF.
Best Mexican Foods will retain its current name and management team and will operate with autonomy in their local markets as an operating division of Legacy Food Group, gaining access to enhanced supplier relationships, consolidated purchasing benefits, coordinated sales and marketing support, and many other resources that will help enhance the company’s regional success.
“We are thrilled to welcome Best Mexican Foods into the Legacy Food Group family,” said Steve Push, CEO of Legacy Food Group. “Dan and Lou Barbone have done a tremendous job in furthering their family legacy and cementing Best Mexican as the premier source in the Northeast for top notch Hispanic foods. This acquisition provides us with the perfect opportunity to partner with a well-known regional distributor while expanding our presence in the fast-growing Hispanic food market.”
In an additional announcement, LFG’s Thomsen Foodservice Division recently acquired the assets of D’Andrea Foods Inc. (“D’Andrea”) in March of this year.
Located in East Bridgewater, MA., D’Andrea Foods is a broadline foodservice distributor with special expertise in handling the needs of pizzerias and Mediterranean cuisine customers. Founded in 1979, D’Andrea also services independent restaurants, delicatessens, cafés, and markets within a market area that includes Massachusetts and extends into Rhode Island and New Hampshire.
The move will give Thomsen an introduction into the South Boston market. Thomsen and D’Andrea experienced almost no overlap in current customer bases, and the operations were absorbed into Thomsen’s East Providence location.
“Legacy Food Group has provided our business with the best of both worlds,” said Ed Thomsen, former owner and current Division President of Thomsen Foodservice. “We can be independent, nimble and personal in our operations, while also having access to greater opportunities to expand our business with acquisitions such as D’Andrea. It is fun and exciting to be part of a growing entity.”
“The acquisitions of Best Mexican Foods and D’Andrea Foods are two excellent examples of our ability to execute on a strategic plan to knit together a strong family of independent foodservice distributors who can grow and thrive in our environment of team collaboration, improved benefits of scale, and judiciously applied capital resources,” said Push.
